REVIEW: Planet of the Apes is back with a sequel to the 2017 movie. This film is set in an era post-Caesar’s death where the Earth is inhabited by more Apes and fewer humans. It’s a primitive age on a futuristic earth where humans have vanished and Apes have flourished. The plot is centred around a clan of apes that have Eagles as their guides and a young Ape that would stand tall. Since the apes live in clans, there are encounters with others leading to battles of various magnitude. One leads to another and there comes a time when the hero (Ape) decides to take charge and protect his fellows.

Apart from the general “Planet of the Apes” feeling it seems like a typical Bollywood movie with the hero losing his family in a battle, who then sets out on a journey to reunite with them and finds interesting company on the way that prepares him for the final frontier. The villain (ape) looks like Mogambo and does justice to the character. The layered storytelling keeps the audience hooked. The narrative is gripping and at times surprising. Overall it’s a good spinoff from the Ape vs Human theme.

Enjoy!
