REVIEW: After 24 years of the epic performance by Russel Crowe as Maximus, Ridley Scott brings a sequel to Gladiator. The story continues and brings the Glory of Rome alive on the silver screen.
With a new gladiator, we have a few additions to the old cast, including Denzel Washington.
The story continues 16 years after the first film. Rome seems a different place completely driven by politics. It has a close resemblance to the first film. This makes it predictable and hence slightly boring. The cast and sets are the same. The film lacks a gripping story as expected by the audience. The fights set up in the arena are effective due to special effects. But the comparison with the first film, makes this film and its performances seem weak. Denzel Washington is impressive but has limited opportunities to impress.
Background music does not have an impact and is unnecessary as the sequences are not intense. Surprise elements are missing.
Overall, a good film that continues the glorious story.
Enjoy!
